AVIAN LLC is celebrating its selection as the recipient of the 2017 St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award following an annual awards luncheon, May 10.
A member of the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce for eight years, AVIAN was selected for the Community Service Award for its exemplary business and community image, its contributions to and support of community-oriented projects and for fostering community involvement.
Specifically, the award citation recognizes AVIAN’s support to the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum (PRNAM) over the past four years.
AVIAN’s involvement with the museum began in 2013 when its Director of Communications, Tara Strickland, began attending exhibit planning meetings for the new museum complex. Over the first 18 months, Strickland worked with members of the museum’s exhibit team to develop a new logo for the museum, which is now its primary face to the community.
“From the moment I met with the museum board of directors and key volunteer staff, I was enthused by their passion and commitment to the museum mission to preserve, educate and inspire,” Strickland said. “Our ongoing partnership over the years all revolves around that passion.”
In addition to designing the new logo and branding style guide, Strickland provided marketing and external communications support leading up to the building’s grand opening event as well as strategic communication oversight of the design and development of the museum’s new website in 2016.
“Helping make the museum a success for our community is one of AVIAN’s top priorities, said Kevin Switick, an owner and president of AVIAN. “This museum is one of kind and will serve as an excellent resource for educating and inspiring new generations of the unique science, technology, engineering and math opportunities here at Naval Air Station Patuxent River.”
Continual participation in local community programs oftentimes requires an “above and beyond” commitment from members of the company. This is a commitment AVIAN has always been willingly to taken on.
