AVIAN Talks Digital Agility at DHS Symposium

Nov 7th, 2022

AVIAN, LLC, a leader in Digital Engineering, Test & Evaluation, and Training for the defense and intelligence communities, participated in an industry and academia panel at a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Symposium on November 2.

The symposium, hosted by LMI, focused on Embracing Digital Agility to Enable Acquisition Modernization of DHS.

During the presentation, John Sliger, Principal Digital Engineer at AVIAN, shared his experience and thoughts on a digitally enabled acquisition framework and the benefits of digital engineering to achieve agility, clarity, and better decision-making.

“Digital engineering allows you the opportunity to bring all the previous silos of information into one environment and connect them,” Sliger said. “No more filing cabinets or losing design documents. Everyone puts their information into the same “location,” allowing for all the appropriate connections to be made across all the different domains in the lifecycle. Once implemented, these connections can create powerful workflows that can be used to create various models that help monitor the program's health through reoccurring analyses, thus enabling better decision making.”

AVIAN’s current weapons system digital engineering work for the Naval Air Systems Command puts the company at the forefront of cutting-edge support.

A provider of digital engineering and model-based systems engineering to NAVAIR customers since 2018, AVIAN is part of a joint venture company, The AVIAN-Precise Company, that won a $57.4M contract to provide systems engineering, training, and tools to the NAVAIR Systems Engineering Department (AIR-4.1).

“Digital Engineering is about clarity and collaboration,” said Kevin Switick, AVIAN’s chief executive officer. “Our digital engineering team is developing real-time innovative solutions to address today’s warfighter needs in support of the Vertical Take Off, and Landing (VTOL) Family of Systems (FoS) for the Navy and Marine Corps and are consulting with various organizations across the Air Force, Army, and DHS to realize the DE benefits of alignment, clarity, and better decision making. DE fundamentals span across many areas of government and industry alike. The key is expert practitioners who understand how to maximize value within the lifecycle, and that’s exactly what our team brings to the table.”
