Digital Engineering (to include MBSE)
Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) utilizes systems models to replace the document-centric nature of typical Systems Engineering (SE). The artifacts necessary to describe a system, interfaces, functions, architecture, requirements, and operations become views of the system model. MBSE moves the record of authority and Technical Baselines from documents to digital models.
As an integral member of the Naval Air Systems Command Systems Engineering Transformation Team, AVIAN significantly transforms typical document-centric SE digital systems models for development. AVIAN has developed core digital engineering practices, policies, and processes, as well as thorough academic training, by introducing approaches, techniques, and the tools necessary to establish the digital trinity within any organization.
We're shaping the Digital Ecosystem by creating integrated development environments, utilizing agile methods, and enforcing open-source architectures. Within the Digital Trinity construct, AVIAN maps MBSE principles to the Digital Thread, where the resulting digital artifacts are considered the Authoritative Source of Truth, used for decision-making throughout a system's lifecycle.
As a Digital Engineering (DE) enabler and trusted practitioner, AVIAN facilitates DE consulting and MBSE training programs for our government and industry partners. Our in-house courses, including "Systems Engineering Bootcamp," "Systems Engineering for Program Managers," and "Fundamentals of Systems Modeling Language," represent prime examples of AVIAN's support for workforce and industry adoption of MBSE best practices accelerating our customer transformation into the digital engineering age.
To support rapid growth, AVIAN has created a DE systems lab where access to the latest technologies is available for advanced development and training. This unique environment allows us to experiment with COTS and open-source solutions combined with a flexible DE host environment.
Our SE lab acts as a controlled laboratory environment enabling MBSE and DE methodology development, tool selection, and integration testing to bootstrap a program's host environment, allowing immediate design and sustainment activities. Called "OpenSLAB," it lays the foundation for future DE capability, bringing environment management, modeling-simulation, analysis, and design collaboration to a single point, offering organizational solutions which can be implanted with only a few lines of code.

Predictably achieving targeted levels of system product quality and overall product integrity performance is a critical capability required in realizing NAVAIR’s mission to delivering capable, available, and affordable weapon systems to the Naval Fleet.
AVIAN provides a complete portfolio of product quality/product integrity training courses specifically developed and tailored to support NAVAIR’s Acquisition and Sustainment processes focused on fulfilling this mission.
Our training courses are designed to enable a continuing cultural evolution of Quality Management that shifts an organization from a reactive “find & fix” paradigm to a proactive “plan, predict, prevent & protect” approach by embracing the proven fundamentals of the three universal quality management processes; Quality Planning, Quality Control & Quality Improvement.
We subscribe to Dr. Edwards Deming’s belief that every business management system is perfectly designed to give you exactly what you are getting today, and we know from this belief that continued advances in product quality and product integrity can only occur when the organization collectively advances past being simply managers of results and evolves to becoming managers of systemic causes of results.
With this in mind, we offer product quality and product integrity overview courses for Acquisition and Sustainment Executive Leaders, Managers, and Quality Practitioners such as Engineers, Quality Assurance Specialists, Quality Control Inspectors, and Quality Auditors.
In addition, to support various NAVAIR workforce development strategies we have developed quality certification tracks that provide independent formal recognition by one of our qualified trainers/examiners that an individual completing a selected certification track demonstrates a proficiency within, and comprehension of the requisite training track body of knowledge.
